Chiropractic
Chiropractic is about adjusting the bones of the skeleton to help the nervous system work more
efficiently. Chiropractors realign and rebalance the body to relieve pain and discomfort and to
increase mobility.
Many of us have suffered back pain at some point and know how difficult it can be to do even
simple everyday tasks. As we compensate for this we start to ache in other areas, making the
situation even worse.
McTimoney Chiropractic seeks to address the cause of the problem through subtle adjustments to
the body. This is accomplished using only the hands to make the adjustment to the bones of the
body, the key to success being the speed, dexterity and accuracy with which this is performed.
These swift light force adjustments make it a comfortable treatment to receive.
Chiropractors consider the body benefits from having periodic chiropractic treatments, whether
symptoms are present or not, (a bit like having a dental check up to prevent gum disease and tooth decay).
Who can benefit from treatment?
Anybody from babies to children, young to old; pregnant women can also benefit. I even treat dogs and cats! Common symptoms that would suggest
treatment would be appropriate are restricted mobility, pins and needles, pain and numbness. Common causes of
problems are posture, stress, incorrect lifting, car accidents, sports injuries and falls.
What happens during a consultation?
Your full medical history will be taken, including your current symptoms. I will then explain how I
feel McTimoney Chiropractic may benefit you and answer questions you may have. This is followed by an
examination and if appropriate, treatment. I suggest you wear loose comfortable clothing to your appointment,
but be prepared to remove items of clothing should this be necessary.
The initial consultation usually lasts around 60 minutes. Subsequent consultations are around 20
- 30 minutes,
during which your progress will be reviewed, followed by treatment. You may be given advice regarding posture,
lifestyle and exercise.
How many visits will be necessary?
This depends primarily on what is wrong, and each individual’s ability to heal.
Long standing problems tend to take longer to resolve, recent problems usually heal more quickly.
I generally advise that you allow for 3 - 6 appointments initially. When the main symptoms have subsided
then a maintenance plan can be discussed.
